Because of the rarity of our American Bashkir Curly horses, it is necessary for them to show in open classes against other breeds; and since most Horse show committees and Horse show judges are not familiar with these horses, we would like to acquaint you with several show rules set up by our ABC Registry.
GROOMING: ABC horse should be clean and well-groomed. However, the shaving or shearing of heads, ears, bodies and legs is not allowed. Since our ABC horses have an unusual trait of shedding manes and tails even in summer, we allow these to be sparingly trimmed to give them a neat appearance.
SHOES: We do prefer that ABC horses be shown without shoes in arena show classes; However, if these shoes are strictly required, as in parades or on endurance trails, lifts and weights are not allowed.
PERFORMANCE: ABC stresses performance at all times and feels that horses should be judged on the quality of their performance, done without artificial aids of any kind. We do not consider conformation points in performance classes, feeling that if a horse performs well, its conformation must be right or it could not do the job.
We truly appreciate your Horse Show committee informing your judges regarding the above and trust that our ABC horse will not be pointed down because of these rules.
We thank you very much for your consideration in this matter.
