Hey Misfits,

Sunday morning brought a sunny sky but crisp temperatures. Definite sweatshirt weather. 6 Misfits eagerly arrived in Charlestown for the planned ride to the new Minute Man Restaurant in Westmoreland. Paul and Ann, riding in the big blue Chrysler 300 hardtop led Bob and Ellie in the red Corvette and Audrey and myself in the pewter TR-6 down Rt 12 to meet up with Doug and Ginny and maybe Dick and Jane.

The Minute Man (at the site of the former Hilltop Gift Shop) has good food, good staff and a great view. Some warm Sunday morning we need to do that again and sit out on the deck.

After a hearty breakfast, Doug and Bob sized up each other¹s hat and decided Bob¹s blue and tan Corvette hat would look better on Doug¹s head while Doug¹s bright red had would match Bob¹s Corvette. The colors worked for both of them but the adjustors got a workout. They both drove away smiling (see attachment).

Paul led us up some great mountain roads into Alstead, NH. This is the first time we¹ve seen the aftermath of the disastrous flood late last summer. The entire length of the brook along the side RT. 123 from Lake Warren to the Connecticut River was scoured down to bedrock. It was amazing to see the power of water and the resulting 100 yard swath cut through the middle of town and beyond. New Hampshire has done a great job of rebuilding the road and a few houses and shops have been rebuilt but it will be a long time before all the houses will be repaired or rebuilt. It was far worse than anything I expected.

We decided that after an afternoon of chores that we would top off breakfast with desert at Four U in West Lebanon. Again, 4 cars made the trip up the NH side of the river. This time Paul and Ann opted for the big white top-down Chrysler 300 and Bill¹s Corvette was in line rather than Doug and Ginny¹s Corvette. Audrey was feeling a little under the weather so she stayed home leaving me with a solo drive. A word of caution: order a small or smaller sized ice cream from Four U. Our first stop there earlier last week found me with a medium hard ice cream in a cone. There must have been nearly a half-gallon of Rum Raisin balanced atop a small cone and the sun beating down on us (no umbrellas yet this year). After downing ice cream and hot dogs, we were home just at dark. With 151 miles for the day, I topped off the gas tank with the assumption that the price would increase by a nickel over night but this is Thursday, five days later, and it hasn¹t gone up yet. Maybe this is the end of the daily increase and prices will stabilize. Tough to think that 2.87 a gallon looks good.

Keep an eye on the weather for the weekend.
