model 79 Rebuild Details
Inclusive of, but not limited to:
- Complete disassembly of machine.
- Preserve original, enamel finish,
or prime and paint with Polane.
- Replace all ball, roller, and
thrust bearings.
- Replace work spindle with new tool
steel spindle.
- Scrape and fit work spindle,
bronze bearings for alignment with fixed tail stock.
- Inspect and rework or replace hob
spindle as necessary. At minimum requires grinding of locating
tapers.
- Scrape spindle housing tapers for
alignment and fit with spindle.
- Scrape bed ways parallel to work
spindle.
- Scrape column square and to fit
bed ways.
- Pad or replace gibs as necessary,
scrape gibs to fit.
- Scrape hob slide to fit column.
- Replace feed rack and worm as
necessary.
- Replace indexing worm and wheel as
necessary.
- Replace or repair driven pulley
shaft as necessary.
- Replace and fit bronze bearing to
support driven pulley shaft.
- Replace gimbal, pivot pins as
necessary.
- Repair or replace drive motor as
necessary.
- Replace flat, drive belt.
- Overhaul cutting oil, gear pump.
- Replace oil lines.
- Replace wiring and electrical
controls as necessary.
- Reassemble, adjust all settings,
final inspect alignments, and cycle for function.
